OMS: Boli care refuză să dispară. Meningita, holera și ciuma continuă să ucidă în 2026
Meningitis, cholera, and plague continue to cause illnesses and deaths worldwide, despite advancements in prevention and treatment. Recent WHO data indicates worsening cholera statistics, with outbreaks of meningitis and plague still reported in various countries. Meningitis primarily affects the African meningitis belt, where significant cases and deaths were recorded in 2025. Vaccination has drastically reduced meningococcal disease, with a new vaccine being introduced in the region. Cholera remains deadly, with over 450,000 cases and nearly 8,000 deaths reported in 2025, marking the highest annual death toll since 1999. The plague has also been reported in ten countries, with significant cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar. WHO emphasizes the need for continued surveillance and rapid response to outbreaks.
