Omar Hayssam was conditionally released from prison after a court accepted his appeal against a previous denial. He was serving a sentence of 24 years and 4 months. Following his release, he was taken to a refugee center under the supervision of immigration authorities until his return to Syria. Hayssam had previously requested conditional release multiple times, citing health issues, but his last request was denied in July. The court's recent decision overturned that denial, allowing for his immediate release, provided he is not detained for other reasons. Hayssam was convicted in 2015 for fraud and embezzlement, and he had previously fled Romania in 2006 before being returned in 2013.
