Drivers can now use an additional 12.24 kilometers of the Transylvania Highway (A3) after the inauguration of the section between Zimbor and Poarta Sălajului. This marks the first highway opening of 2026, bringing Romania's total to 1,430 kilometers of highways and express roads. The new segment aims to alleviate heavy traffic and reduce travel times in Sălaj County. The construction contract was valued at 836.899 million lei and is funded through the Transport Program 2021-2027. The interim Minister of Transport highlighted past delays in infrastructure projects, noting that the situation has improved. Future openings of additional highway sections are anticipated this year.
