„Ochii” din pădurile României: sateliți, inteligență artificială și 350 de camere pentru depistarea tăierilor ilegale

Romania has completed a forest monitoring project funded by PNRR, worth over 272 million lei, utilizing satellite images, video cameras, and AI with LiDAR technology to detect illegal logging activities. Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu announced that all components of the project have been finalized and integrated with the SUMAL platform. The system will monitor approximately 70,000 square kilometers of forest, automatically signaling changes in vegetation. Additionally, 350 monitoring points will track wood transport, generating alerts for vehicles lacking proper documentation. The project aims to enhance efficiency in forest management and combat illegal logging.
