In 2024, cars remained the most used transport mode in the EU, accounting for 69.2% of passenger kilometers, despite a slight decrease from 2023. Air transport saw an increase to 15.8%, while trains rose to 7.5%, surpassing buses and trams at 7.3%. Compared to 2014, car and bus usage has declined, while trains and planes gained popularity. Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Finland had the highest car usage rates, while Croatia led in air travel. Malta had the highest bus usage, and Estonia topped maritime transport.
