Oana Țoiu răspunde acuzațiilor privind dreptul de veto al României în UE: „Niciun ministru de externe nu poate renunța la dreptul de veto”

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu denied allegations of abandoning the veto right in the EU, clarifying that a letter signed with ten other states aims to enhance decision-making efficiency without altering treaties. She emphasized that the letter does not propose any changes to the veto right and that Romania has never used it. Țoiu highlighted the importance of explaining the reasons behind veto usage to EU partners, asserting that this does not require approval from others. She reiterated that any changes to voting mechanisms would not affect military decisions and that the Romanian Parliament could block such changes. Furthermore, she stated that no foreign minister can unilaterally renounce Romania's veto right, which requires unanimous agreement from EU leaders and national parliaments.
