A team from Harvard & Smithsonian and the University of Oregon has detected a clear radio signal from the exoplanet Beta Pictoris b, located 63.4 light-years away. This signal, attributed to the planet's auroras, was observed using the MeerKAT telescope array. The emissions are linked to interactions between charged particles and the planet's magnetic field. This discovery marks the first direct measurement of an exoplanet's magnetic field intensity, which is significantly stronger than Earth's. Beta Pictoris b, discovered in 2008, is part of a system with three known planets and offers a new method for studying exoplanets and their magnetic fields.
