Researchers examined pre-Hispanic agricultural networks in La Mojana, revealing that the infrastructure, which includes raised fields and canals, could have been constructed by a population of around 1,600 people in a short time frame. This challenges previous beliefs about the need for a hierarchical political organization to manage such projects. The findings also highlight the potential for these ancient techniques to address modern water management issues in the region, which faces severe flooding and droughts.
