Finland and Sweden have reestablished a railway connection after 40 years, enabling extensive travel across Europe. The new service links Oulu and Haparanda, allowing journeys of nearly 5,000 kilometers from Finland to Portugal. Operated by VR, it offers two daily round trips, with the first train running since Monday morning. Previously, travelers had to cross the border by car or on foot. The service was suspended in 1988 due to passenger decline and gauge differences. Passengers must switch trains in Haparanda to continue their journey in Sweden. This development enhances Europe's rail network, facilitating long-distance travel.
