O țară europeană își închide școlile din lipsă de copii. Semnalul de alarmă pentru întregul continent

In Greece, many schools on isolated islands are closing due to declining student numbers, a trend reflecting broader demographic issues in Europe. This year, 75 schools were shut down, with over 400 others facing suspension. The situation is dire in remote communities, where youth migration and low birth rates threaten local survival. For instance, Kalamos island has only two students left, leading to the imminent closure of its school. The demographic decline is not unique to Greece, as similar issues are seen in Croatia and Japan, where populations in isolated areas are shrinking significantly. The OECD predicts Greece's population could drop to 8 million by 2050, with fertility rates falling below replacement levels across Europe.
