A section of the A1 highway between Sibiu and Pitești has been closed for 11 weeks for construction, causing internal conflict within the Ministry of Transport. Secretary of State Horațiu Cosma criticized CNAIR's director Cristian Pistol for rejecting alternative solutions to keep traffic open. Pistol defended the closure, stating it was unanimously agreed upon by specialists for safety reasons. The closure affects a 13 km stretch and traffic is diverted to DN7 and DN1. Cosma plans to introduce a ministerial order requiring thorough justification for future road closures, while Pistol argues that the decision was necessary to ensure public safety.
