Researchers have identified a new leafless flowering plant species named Thismia daemona, discovered in a national park in western Thailand. This unique plant, part of the Thismia genus, lacks chlorophyll and relies on soil fungi for nutrients. Found at nearly 1,000 meters altitude, it expands the known range of its section, previously limited to the Malay Peninsula and Borneo. The species is critically endangered, with fewer than 50 individuals known, highlighting concerns for its future due to habitat popularity among tourists.
