Lucasfilm is preparing a new Star Wars trilogy, with Jon Watts set to direct the first film, scripted by Simon Kinberg. Watts, known for the Spider-Man trilogy, has previously worked on Star Wars projects. Kinberg has ties to the franchise, having contributed to The Force Awakens and created Star Wars Rebels. While details about the story remain scarce, Daisy Ridley may reprise her role as Rey. Additionally, other Star Wars films are in development, including Starfighter, set for a 2027 release. No title or release date has been announced for the new trilogy yet.
