For the first time in Romania, a team of interventional cardiologists performed a mechanical thrombectomy to save a patient with pulmonary embolism who was dependent on dialysis. The procedure utilized the Penumbra FLASH 2.0 system, which allows for controlled aspiration of blood clots. The patient, suffering from severe renal failure, faced a critical situation that required immediate intervention. The team successfully restored pulmonary blood flow, significantly improving the patient's condition. However, the costly technology, priced at around 9,000 euros per patient, is not currently funded by national health programs, prompting the hospital to purchase the devices independently.
