A new energy storage technology in Devon, England, utilizes a dense liquid that can make concrete float, potentially transforming clean energy storage. The RheEnergise facility operates at 500 kilowatts, using a fluid 2.5 times denser than water, allowing for effective energy storage in lower elevations. This system, called High-Density Hydro, can function with a height difference of about 200 meters, making it suitable for urban areas. The project has received significant funding and aims to produce energy for around 400 homes annually. Future projects could generate between 10 and 100 megawatts, with the first commercial system expected by 2028.
