A failure occurred at CET Craiova 2, one of the few operational coal plants, affecting the national energy system. The plant, with a licensed capacity of 130 MW, is expected to resume operation on August 31. This incident follows a previous failure at the Turceni plant, which was also temporarily shut down. Both plants were scheduled for closure due to EU commitments, but authorities have decided to keep them operational amid the energy crisis. CET Craiova is set to be replaced by a gas-fired cogeneration plant in a significant investment by Electrica.
