A woman in southern Italy recovered a winning lottery ticket worth one million euros after accidentally throwing it away. Local sanitation workers conducted a large-scale search that lasted over a day to find the ticket. The woman initially did not realize she had won and returned to the store only to learn the ticket had been discarded. The sanitation company traced the ticket's path and identified the garbage truck, which was taken to a sorting facility. After more than 24 hours of searching, the winning ticket was found intact. The woman was emotional upon learning of her win and agreed to cover the search costs, which were minor compared to her prize.
