An Italian footwear manufacturer, La Sportiva, decided in 2022 to stop selling heavy boots in Russia to avoid aiding the military amid the Ukraine conflict. This choice costs the company about €1.8 million annually. While they continue to sell climbing shoes, the owner, Lorenzo Delladio, emphasizes the importance of this decision despite the financial impact. La Sportiva, founded in 1928, has over 800 employees and reported a turnover of €213 million in 2025. Delladio notes that competitors still supply the Russian market, but he remains committed to his ethical stance, regardless of the ongoing war.
