The Beetle, officially launched in 1938, became a global icon with over 21.5 million units produced, celebrated for its affordability and reliability. The production line ended in 2003, but its cultural significance remains strong, partly due to celebrity endorsements like Paul Newman, who modified his Beetle for racing.
