Local open-end investment funds have seen net subscriptions in the first eight months of 2026 surpassing the total for 2025, with over two-thirds allocated to equity funds. The assets of these funds nearly doubled, according to Termene Business Hub's analysis based on data from the Association of Fund Managers. While the number of investors reached record highs, there are concerns about the accuracy of these figures. Additionally, these funds are increasingly taking on roles traditionally held by pension funds in the Romanian stock market, which brings both benefits and risks. The assets of local open-end funds grew by 32.8% in early 2026 compared to the end of 2025, reaching 48.6 billion lei, with 54.5% of this growth attributed to new investor contributions.
