In the first eight months of 2026, 21,791 building permits for residential buildings were issued, marking a 12.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. In August 2026, 2,943 permits were granted, a slight increase of 1.2% from July 2026, with 72.5% of these permits for rural areas. However, there were significant regional variations, with notable increases in the North-East and West regions, while Bucharest-Ilfov saw a decline. For non-residential buildings, 567 permits were issued in August, reflecting a 1.7% decrease from the previous month. Year-on-year comparisons show a decline in residential permits and total usable area, while non-residential permits saw a slight increase despite a decrease in usable area.
