In 2026, Romania experienced a significant increase in drone incidents near the Ukrainian border, with unauthorized drone entries nearly tripling compared to 2025. Official data indicates 125 attacks since the start of the Ukraine war, with 59 occurring this year alone. The number of unauthorized drone incursions reached 25 in 2026, up from 9 in 2025. Additionally, 32 drones or drone fragments were discovered this year, double the amount from the previous year, and 4 drones were shot down. Recent incidents include drone sightings in Târgu Bujor and Ciușlea, as well as military engagements involving Spanish and Romanian fighter jets.
