In China, a kindergarten owner was sentenced to life imprisonment for poisoning over 200 children with lead-contaminated food. Investigators found that the staff used non-edible paint to enhance food appearance, leading to severe lead poisoning cases. The owner, Li Huifang, along with five staff members, received significant prison sentences for their roles in the incident. The court also ordered the confiscation of Li's assets worth approximately $74,700. Following the scandal, authorities discovered attempts to cover up the incident by local officials. New national food safety regulations were introduced to prevent similar occurrences in educational institutions.
