In early July, daily flights surged to 2,700, a significant increase from the off-season average. The region's air traffic has risen by 40% since 2019, with Greece welcoming 38 million tourists last year. A system failure in January highlighted vulnerabilities, prompting a €300 million modernization plan. However, staffing remains critical, with only 154 controllers available instead of the needed 250. The situation is further complicated by increased flights due to the Middle East conflict, adding pressure to an already strained system.
