Nu mai e boala bătrâneții. Accidentele vasculare cerebrale s-au dublat la tinerii de 20-54 de ani

A recent American study reveals that stroke rates have nearly doubled among adults aged 20-54, while decreasing in older populations. The research, published in Neurology, examined first-time strokes in the Cincinnati and northern Kentucky area from 1993 to 2020. The incidence among younger adults rose from 33.9 to 62.18 cases per 100,000 person-years, primarily due to ischemic strokes. Factors like hypertension and diabetes have increased among young stroke patients, alongside a significant rise in substance use, particularly marijuana. However, researchers caution that causation cannot be established without a control group. Despite the alarming trend, 30-day mortality rates for young patients have decreased. Experts emphasize the need for further investigation into these findings.
