ANAF has introduced a new procedure for imposing VAT from office on taxpayers who fail to submit their VAT returns. Taxpayers have 15 days to respond to a notification before ANAF can impose a tax. If the taxpayer submits the return within this period, the procedure is halted. After a tax decision is issued, there is a 60-day window to submit the return to annul the decision. Taxpayers can also contest the decision within 45 days. This procedure applies to VAT returns starting from July 2024, but also affects previous periods under the old rules.
