Novak Djokovic was eliminated in his opening match at the Shanghai Masters 1000, losing to Hurkacz 6-4, 6-3. Despite winning his 102nd title in Beijing just days earlier, Djokovic struggled physically during the match. At 39, he is being selective with his tournament schedule to maximize his chances for a 25th Grand Slam title. Hurkacz, the defending champion, will face Musetti or Zhou in the next round. Djokovic is expected to return at the Paris Masters, currently sitting ninth in the annual 'Race' ranking, with several players vying for his spot.
