The independent Russian newspaper Novaia Gazeta announced its closure after three decades, citing pressure from authorities. Editor-in-chief Sergei Sokolov stated that the editorial team was forced to cease operations due to Russian security services. The publication has faced increasing restrictions since military censorship was introduced amid the Ukraine conflict. Despite its closure, Novaia Gazeta will continue to exist online. The editorial team expressed concerns about losing their livelihood and facing ongoing repression.
