An increasing number of fathers in Romania are taking parental leave, with 21,700 staying home with their babies in 2025. This trend reflects changing societal norms and financial considerations. Sociologist Gelu Duminică notes that the role of fathers is evolving from traditional providers to active caregivers. While some still believe mothers should primarily care for children, many fathers express the value of their involvement. Last year, fathers accounted for over 14% of parental leave beneficiaries, with a notable rise in those receiving maximum allowances. The shift indicates a broader acceptance of shared parenting responsibilities.
