The UK has successfully tested a swarm of eight autonomous drones operating as a single system in a military environment. This experiment is part of a program aimed at advancing swarm technology for military use. The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory collaborated with the army and industry to evaluate the drones' performance in realistic operational scenarios. The goal is to reduce the number of operators needed for multiple drones, allowing one operator to manage a group. Future tests are planned for 2026 and 2027, with the potential for rapid adoption of autonomous platforms. This technology could change military economics by enabling coordinated actions of less expensive drones.
