The Hungarian Parliament has approved the establishment of the National Asset Recovery Office (NVVH) aimed at recovering allegedly embezzled funds from the previous government. The law, proposed by the ruling Tisza party, received 143 votes in favor and 46 against. The NVVH will focus on detecting abuses of public assets and investigating corruption cases. Critics, including Fidesz, have labeled the office a modern version of the secret police from the communist era. The new office will have a president and four vice-presidents elected by parliament for a six-year term. Additionally, a new Constitutional Court judge was appointed amid concerns over the government's rapid decision-making process.
