Starting October 1, 2026, Romania will implement a new road usage fee system. The rovinieta for cars and vehicles up to 3.5 tons will be influenced by emission class, while vehicles over 3.5 tons will use the TollRo system based on distance and pollution levels. The new law maintains the rovinieta for lighter vehicles but introduces emission standards in pricing. TollRo will replace the current rovinieta for heavier vehicles, charging based on kilometers traveled and emission class. Additionally, bridge tolls will be eliminated, and older vehicles will face higher fees. Non-compliance will result in significant fines, and collected fees will support road maintenance and infrastructure improvements.
