The price of diesel in the EU has reached a new record of €2.23 per liter, up from €2.16 last week, driven by geopolitical tensions and energy supply disruptions. An analysis by AFP indicates that 19 EU countries, including Germany, France, and Italy, have set new price records due to energy shocks linked to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. Denmark and Finland have the highest prices at €2.56 per liter, followed by Germany at €2.46. The average price includes taxes, which account for about 40% of the total cost. Some countries have implemented tax reductions similar to those during the 2022 energy crisis, but current fiscal measures are significantly lower than before. The overall price increase in the EU has been about 40% since late February, while U.S. diesel prices have surged over 70%.
