On August 17, Romania set a new record for solar energy production, generating 3,174 MW at noon, accounting for 55% of total energy output. Other sources lagged behind, with nuclear plants offline due to water shortages. Despite high solar output, the country faces challenges with energy imports in the evening when solar production drops. This pattern has led to low daytime prices and high evening prices, necessitating imports to meet demand.
