Nou focar de variolă ovină în Buzău: Sute de oi vizate

A new outbreak of sheep pox has been confirmed in Buzău County, specifically in Luciu. Veterinary authorities have implemented measures to control the disease's spread after tests confirmed the virus in suspected animals. This marks the second outbreak in Buzău this year, following an earlier case in Padina during the summer. The outbreak was suspected after signs of illness were observed in two sheep, leading to veterinary examinations and laboratory tests. Approximately 600 sheep are in the affected farm, prompting an epidemiological investigation and measures such as culling infected sheep, monitoring surrounding animals, and banning animal transport. Disinfection of the farm and a census of susceptible livestock are also underway. Sheep pox is highly contagious among sheep and goats but does not affect humans, although it can cause significant losses for farmers and lead to restrictions on animal movement.
