Norway plans to store millions of tons of CO2 2.6 kilometers beneath the seabed, following the launch of Europe's largest carbon capture facility in the Netherlands. The facility, developed by Yara International, aims to reduce emissions from a major fertilizer production site. It will capture up to 800,000 tons of CO2 annually, transporting it to Norway for storage. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere highlighted the project's scientific and commercial viability, emphasizing the importance of advanced technology in addressing climate challenges. The EU aims to leverage carbon capture technology to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, despite facing criticism regarding its commercial feasibility and environmental impact.
