Norway has detained the Russian research vessel Professor Molchanov at the request of Naftogaz to secure payments from Russia for seized Ukrainian assets. The arrest was ordered by a court to enforce an international arbitration ruling, with Russia's outstanding obligations amounting to approximately $4.2 billion. The vessel, used for Arctic cruises, is prohibited from leaving the dock, and measures have been taken to prevent its movement. Built in 1982, it has been modernized to carry passengers while maintaining its ice-strengthened hull.
