The turnover in gambling and recreational activities in Romania decreased by 16% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics. Overall, the market services turnover dropped by 9.1%, with significant declines in hotels and restaurants. However, tourism agencies saw a 17.4% increase in turnover. The negative trend continued in June, with a 17% decrease in gambling activities compared to June 2025. An audit revealed that Romanians wagered over 96.1 billion lei in 2024, highlighting issues in monitoring by the ONJN.
