Starting October 1, 2026, Romania will implement a new road toll system affecting vehicle fees based on pollution standards. The rovinieta for cars will now vary according to emission categories, with higher fees for older vehicles. Additionally, the separate tolls for crossing certain Danube bridges will be eliminated. Trucks over 3.5 tons will transition to the TollRo system, which charges based on distance traveled rather than time. The new tariffs will be set in lei and will reflect the vehicle's emission class. Existing rovinieta purchases will remain valid until their expiration date, and no new purchase is required immediately after the system change.
