Romania faces a significant energy price increase due to nuclear reactor outages, low hydro and wind production, and coal plant shutdowns. The average electricity price for September 24 is 233 euros/MWh, the second highest in Europe. The energy deficit is exacerbated by the absence of two nuclear units and reduced hydro output from the Danube. Wind energy generation is also expected to drop significantly. Additionally, several coal plants are offline due to accidents, further straining the energy supply. Consequently, Romania is importing energy to meet demand, especially during peak hours.
