The Romanian government has announced a three-phase plan to ensure the safe operation of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant amid declining Danube water levels. The National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) approved measures including the placement of barges, a stone dam, and pumps for cooling the plant. The plan will be activated if water levels drop to 1.58 meters, with specific actions to redirect water flow and enhance cooling resources. Funding for the necessary works will come from the Ministry of Environment's budget, although costs have not been disclosed. These measures aim to maintain safe operations during historically low Danube levels, which have already led to the shutdown of two reactors supplying 20% of dispatchable energy.
