Nimeni nu va plăti pentru violențe. Ironia dosarului „10 august”: faptele se prescriu astăzi, apelul are loc săptămâna viitoare

On October 10, 2026, the events from the August 10 case will be statute-barred, meaning no one will be held accountable for the violence. The case is still in appeal, with the next hearing scheduled for October 13, just after the statute of limitations expires. Judges will only acknowledge that the actions are time-barred, preventing former Gendarmerie leaders from facing consequences for their forceful intervention in 2018. Initially closed in 2020, the case was reopened due to public pressure from victims. In June, after over 80 hearings, the Military Tribunal acquitted the former Gendarmerie chiefs. Out of 312 civil claimants, only four received moral damages, while material compensation requests were denied. The Military Prosecutor's Office and over 100 injured parties have appealed the decision, but the Military Court of Appeal has postponed the hearing until after the statute of limitations.
