President Nicușor Dan has signed decrees appointing nearly 300 new judges and prosecutors, effective August 1, 2026, following their successful capacity exam. This move aims to strengthen Romania's judiciary, which has faced significant personnel shortages in recent years. The new magistrates include approximately 180 judges and nearly 100 prosecutors, who will be assigned to courts and prosecutor's offices nationwide. Despite this influx, legal associations warn that personnel gaps remain in courts and appeal courts, necessitating further recruitment efforts to fully address the challenges in the judicial system.
