Nazare: Reducerea deficitului nu este o chestiune de opţiuni şi nu poate fi amânată - Economica.net

Romania has undergone significant fiscal consolidation, transitioning from a debt-driven economy to one focused on long-term investments. The budget deficit was 9.3% of GDP in 2024, the highest in the EU, but is projected to decrease to 7.9% in 2025 and 6.2% in 2026. Minister Alexandru Nazare highlighted a 37% reduction in the budget deficit in the first seven months of 2026 compared to the previous year, alongside an 11.2% increase in budget revenues. Investments have also risen, particularly from EU funds. Nazare emphasized the need for sustainable public finances and a shift towards a growth model based on production and productivity, rather than debt. He warned that the adjustment process may temporarily temper consumption but is essential for long-term economic stability.
