Corina Drăgotescu highlighted the dangerous confusion between nationalism and patriotism in Romania, emphasizing that nationalism can have negative effects, especially in a poor nation. She argued that patriotism is more suitable and warned against the harmful implications of mixing these concepts. Drăgotescu criticized a type of nationalism that excludes foreigners, suggesting that it stems from a toxic political environment. She believes that discussions about nationalism would diminish if the economy and society were functioning well. Furthermore, she stated that a Romanian president should promote patriotism over nationalism, as the latter has historically led to negative outcomes.
