„Nașul politic” al lui Lucian Pahonțu dezvăluie cum a ajuns acesta să fie numit șeful SPP de către Traian Băsescu: „Mi l-au propus structurile, nu faci propuneri de capul tău. Normal că l-am recomandat”
Senator Vasile Blaga revealed that he recommended Lucian Pahonțu for the SPP leadership to President Traian Băsescu, following suggestions from security structures. Blaga, then Minister of Internal Affairs, confirmed that Anghel Andreescu, a former SPP chief and Pahonțu's superior, also influenced this decision. Pahonțu succeeded Gabriel Naghi as SPP head shortly after Băsescu took office. Blaga stated that he assumed background checks on Pahonțu were conducted, as he was already a senior officer in the Gendarmerie. He expressed ignorance about Pahonțu's alleged involvement in past violent events during the Revolution and Mineriade, only acknowledging media reports.
