This victory marked his seventh consecutive win, following his title defense in Tokyo. Alcaraz, currently ranked third in the ATP, aims to win the Shanghai tournament for the first time, one of the few Masters 1000 events he hasn't conquered yet. He will face the winner of the match between Ignacio Buse and Zizou Bergs in the next round. After a four-and-a-half-month injury hiatus, Alcaraz returned to competition at the US Open, reaching the quarterfinals and winning in Tokyo.
