Mugur Isărescu, despre trecerea României la moneda euro: Suntem pregătiți să o facem când societatea este pregătită / Când ar putea adopta țara moneda europeană
Mugur Isărescu, the governor of the National Bank of Romania, stated that while Romania should adopt the euro, it is currently unprepared. The country must first reduce its budget deficit below 3% and maintain fiscal discipline. Isărescu emphasized that the BNR is ready to resume preparations for euro adoption, but this is a complex political process involving various stakeholders. He noted that Romania had previously met the criteria for euro adoption in 2014, but subsequent fiscal policies led to increased deficits. The priority remains fiscal correction to enable future euro adoption discussions.
