Romania will reduce the excise duty on diesel by 25% from September 1 to 15, 2026, in response to rising market prices. This increase follows a previous 20% reduction in late August. The measure aims to alleviate fiscal pressure on fuel prices and is part of a temporary mechanism established by Law no. 162/2026. The effective excise will be 2,103.22 lei per 1,000 liters. The government emphasizes that this intervention is designed to limit the impact of rising diesel costs on transport and consumer goods prices.
