The U.S. Army is advancing the development of the Precision Strike Missile Increment 4 (PrSM Inc. 4), capable of striking targets over 1,000 km away, including moving ships and ground targets. Five companies have been selected to create competing prototypes, with contracts awarded through a streamlined process to expedite development. The competition will unfold in two phases, culminating in flight tests by fiscal year 2028. The new missile aims to significantly enhance the capabilities of the HIMARS system, which has already proven effective against Russian forces in Ukraine. Lockheed Martin is among the companies developing the missile, utilizing advanced propulsion technology to achieve the extended range without compromising compatibility with existing launchers.
